Former Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read will return to the club in 2018 in a part-time coaching capacity.
Read, 39, retired from professional cricket in September, having spent 20 years on the playing staff at Trent Bridge, 10 of those as skipper.
His move to join the coaching team comes after he took the decision to sit out last year’s T20 Blast and instead help with off-the-field preparations, as the Notts Outlaws won for the competition for first time.
Read said his involvement “will be in the holidays of my teaching role at Uppingham School.”
“The Easter holidays coincides with pre-season and the start of the first Championship game and then latterly there’s also the summer holiday period.
“Hopefully, although I’m coming and going, I will be able to have a little bit of an impact as a fresh set of eyes.”
Head coach Peter Moores is delighted Read is to remain involved at Trent Bridge, with the two having worked closely to oversee Notts’ Championship promotion in 2017.
“To be able to tap into Chris’ knowledge as a captain and player, as well as his specialist skills which he can use to can support our wicketkeepers, makes him the perfect fit for our coaching team.

“He is already a Level 4 coach, having completed that qualification while he was still playing, and fitted in brilliantly with the rest of the coaching team when he did some work with us last year.
“Everyone enjoyed having Chris around, and we’ll be delighted to welcome him back as and when it fits with him and us.”
