Chinelle Henry has been ruled out of the remainder of West Indies Women’s series against India due to concussion.
She sustained the injury in heroic, match-turning circumstances, diving and crashing into the boundary hoardings during India’s chase in the first ODI. She prevented four, saving two runs in a game her side would win by one run.
The blow also saw the first use of the ICC’s new concussion substitute rule in a women’s international, and her absence from the rest of the three-match encounter paves the way for Hayley Matthews to return to West Indies’ squad. The 21-year old is coming to the end of an eight-match suspension imposed by CWI Disciplinary Tribunal for breaching Cricket West Indies’ Code of Conduct in September 2019, and she will join the squad ahead of the third ODI.
Harmanpreet Kaur has just taken one of the great catches to deny Stafanie Taylor, on 94, an ODI century.

According to the board’s concussion policy, Henry will be unavailable for a minimum of seven days and will be monitored by the team management during that period.
During this year’s Ashes, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne became the first player in men’s international cricket to be named as the first concussion substitute on the last day of the Lord’s Test, replacing Steve Smith.
West Indies have also named Caneisha Isaac as a replacement for Britney Cooper, who has also been ruled out of the series with a bruised shin after being struck with a ball during the first match.
“Isaac is a young medium pacer and a livewire on the field who impressed during the recent pre-series camp,” said Ann Browne-John, CWI’s lead selector for women’s and girls’ cricket. “She will join the group of young medium pacers being groomed in the thrust to continue the development of young players.”
The second ODI is due to be played on November 3 at the same venue in Antigua with the final ODI on Wednesday, November 6.
