Playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav failed to impress with the bat in their first red-ball innings of the season against TNCA XI.
On day two, TNCA XI could manage only 85 runs to their overnight tally of 294-5. Mumbai off-spinner Himanshu Singh was the star of the show, finishing with 5-81. TNCA XI finished their first innings for 379 on day two after batting for 117.3 overs. Boopathi Vaishna Kumar (82), Pradosh Ranjan Paul (65) and B Indrajith (61) all contributed in their team's batting display.
Iyer, SKY fail to impress
In reply, Mumbai were off to a steady start but soon lost Musheer Khan (16) with their score at 35 after 13.4 overs. Shreyas Iyer came in next at No.3, managing only two off three and was dismissed by Sai Kishore in the 16th over.
Iyer lost his BCCI central contract for not prioritising domestic cricket last season. Once known as India’s effective spin-basher, he has lost his place in the side since then.
Jay Shah, currently the BCCI secretary, will commence his duties with the ICC from December 1, 2024.

Suryakumar Yadav, featuring in this match, has also expressed his desire to return to the Test team. However, like Iyer, SKY also couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity.
Batting at No.4, he was striking the ball well and was off to 30 runs quickly, hitting three fours and a six. Despite the blazing start, his innings lasted only 38 balls. He was dismissed by left-arm spinner Ajith Ram S, trying to loft him over mid-on.
SKY has represented India in a solitary Test so far, against Australia in February last year, scoring only eight runs.
At the time of writing, Mumbai were 124-5.
