The 2024 Buchi Babu tournament got underway on Thursday, August 15. Here is a round-up of the action from day three (August 17).
The first round of action saw four games taking place – Madhya Pradesh v Jharkhand, Railways v Gujarat, Haryana v Mumbai and Chhattisgarh v Jammu and Kashmir.

Madhya Pradesh v Jharkhand: Day 3 round-up
After captain, Ishan Kishan starred with both bat and gloves in the first innings, Jharkhand ensured their grip stayed firm on the match. Buoyed by a 64-run first-innings lead, Jharkhand bowlers bowled out their opposition for 238 in the third innings. Manishi took 3-77, while Shubham Singh and Ravi Yadav took two wickets each.
Chasing 175, Jharkhand are well placed at 37-1 after day three, with Shikhar Mohan (17 not out off 47) and Sharandeep Singh (2 not out off 18) at the crease.

Railways v Gujarat: Day 3 round-up
Indian Railways were the standout batting side on day one, scoring 429-6. On day two, Ashutosh Sharma smashed 43 off 25 balls and Sahaib Yuvraj became the innings' third centurion, before they were eventually bowled out for 570.
Gujarat scored 155-3 by the end of play on day two, but capitulated quickly, losing all their wickets for 227.
In the third innings, Railways went after some quick runs to extend the lead before declaring at 138-5 in 23 overs. Opener Shivam Chaudhary scored a 44-ball 49. Raj Chaudhary’s 3-30 with the ball in the fourth innings certainly made Railways the favourite after day three, as Gujarat were reduced to 91-4 with an improbable 482-run target to achieve.
Score at stumps, day three: Railways 570 (Pratham Singh 130, Siddharth Desai 4-159) v Gujarat 227 (Manan Hingrajia 65, Purnak Tyagi 3-25), 4th innings: Gujarat 91-4 (Manan Hingrajia 34*, Raj Chaudhary 3-30. Gujarat need 391 runs to win.
Haryana v Mumbai: Day 3 round-up
In reply to Haryana's 419, thanks to Dheeru Singh's 147, Mumbai were all out for 245 runs in the first innings. Having resumed at 133-4, Sarfaraz, resuming on his overnight score of 26 not out couldn't add much, returning for a 95-ball 37. Lakshay Sangwan was the pick of the Haryana bowlers, finishing with 3-30.
With a deficit to knock down, Mumbai started their second innings by losing openers Akhil Herwadkar (5) and Amogh Bhatkal (19) cheaply. Musheer Khan (37 not out off 117), partnered with Siddhesh Lad (16 not out off 108), resurrecting Mumbai’s innings, taking them to 83-2 at the close of the day’s play, with still 91 runs behind.
Score at stumps, day three: 1st innings: Haryana 419 (Dheeru Singh 147, Junaid Khan 2-48), 2nd innings: Mumbai 245 (Akhil Herwadkar 55, Lakshay Sangwan 3-21, 3rd innings: Mumbai 83-2 (Musheer Khan 37*, Amit Rana 2-13). Mumbai trail by 91 runs.
Chhattisgarh v Jammu and Kashmir: Day 3 round-up
At the end of day three, J & K are clearly in the driver's seat. In reply to Chhattisgarh's 278, they racked up 587-9, riding on Shubham Khajuria's double hundred. Khajuria resumed the day on 147 and went on to score a 368-ball 202. He was well supported by Sahil Lotra (107 of 192). In the third innings, they also managed to hand some early blows, reducing Chhattisgarh to 46-2.
