Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament 2023 will feature 12 teams, and will be played across four venues in Tamil Nadu between August 16 and September 11.
The 12 teams have been split into four groups. The three teams in each group will play each other in four-day matches in a round-robin league format. The teams in Group A will play in Coimbatore, Group B in Dindigul, Group C in Salem, and Group D in Tirunelveli.
The table topper from each group will go to the semi-finals, at Salem and Dindigul from September 2 to 5. Coimbatore will host the final, from September 8 to 11.
Group A: TNCA President’s XI, Indian Railways, Tripura (Coimbatore)
Group B: Haryana, Baroda, Madhya Pradesh (Dindigul)
Group C: Mumbai, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir (Salem)
Group D: TNCA XI, Kerala, Bengal (Tirunelveli)
The tournament is named after M Buchi Babu Naidu, often celebrated as the Father of Madras Cricket. Buchi Babu founded the Madras Union Cricket Club, and was responsible for the annual Presidency Match between Indians and Europeans.
His son Cotah Ramaswami represented India at both the International Lawn Tennis Challenge (now the Davis Cup) and Test cricket.
