The first round of action saw four games taking place – Madhya Pradesh v Jharkhand, Railways v Gujarat, Haryana v Mumbai and Chhattisgarh v Jammu and Kashmir.

Madhya Pradesh v Jharkhand: Day 4 round-up

After captain Ishan Kishan starred with both gloves and bat in the first two innings, Jharkhand ensured their grip stayed firm on the match. Buoyed by a 64-run first-innings lead, Jharkhand bowlers bowled out their opposition for 238 in the third innings. Manishi took 3-77, while Shubham Singh and Ravi Yadav took two wickets each.

Chasing 175, Jharkhand reached 37-1 after day three. They looked on track to chase down the target, at 101-3 but soon slipped to 135-6 and 162-8 to set up a nervy finish. But with Kishan still at the crease with 12 runs to win, he smashed two sixes off Akash Rajawat to seal a two-wicket win.

Final score: Madhya Pradesh 225 (Shubham S Kushwah 84, Saurabh Shekhar 3-35) & 238 (Aniket Verma 110, Manishi 3-77) LOST to Jharkhand 289 (Ishan Kishan 114, Parush Mandal 5-42) & 175-8 (Ishan Kishan 41*, Akash Rajawat 4-77) by two wickets.

Railways v Gujarat: Day 4 round-up

Railways were the standout batting side on day one, scoring 429-6. On day two, Ashutosh Sharma smashed 43 off 25 balls and Sahaib Yuvraj became the innings' third centurion, before they were eventually bowled out for 570.

Gujarat scored 155-3 by the end of play on day two, but capitulated quickly, losing all their wickets for 227. In the third innings, Railways went after some quick runs to extend the lead before declaring at 138-5 in 23 overs. Raj Chaudhary’s 3-30 then helped reduce Gujarat to 91-4 with an improbable 482-run target to achieve.

Resuming on day four, Jaymeet Patel (92) and Manan Hingrajia (102) eventually put on 168 for the fifth wicket to give Gujarat a sniff of victory. Captain Chintan Gaja also scored a superb 80 but it was not enough as Railways eventually managed to bowl them out for 342 and secure a 139-run win.

Final score: Railways 570 (Pratham Singh 130, Siddharth Desai 4-159) & 138-5d (Shivam Chaudhary 49, Tejas Patel 1-28) BEAT Gujarat 227 (Manan Hingrajia 65, Purnak Tyagi 3-25) & 342 (Manan Hingrajia 102, Ayan Chaudhary 5-85) by 139 runs.

Haryana v Mumbai: Day 4 round-up

In reply to Haryana's 419, thanks to Dheeru Singh's 147, Mumbai were all out for 245 runs in the first innings. Lakshay Sangwan was the pick of the Haryana bowlers, finishing with 3-30. Following on, Mumbai started their second innings by losing openers Akhil Herwadkar (5) and Amogh Bhatkal (19) cheaply. Musheer Khan and Siddhesh Lad then rebuilt the innings, taking them to 83-2 at the close of day three.

On day four, Musheer was dismissed early and Mumbai were 195-6 before some useful runs came from the lower order to lift them to 321 and set Haryana 148 to win. Mumbai struck at regular intervals and managed to reduce them to 80-5 and 91-6. However, Himanshu Rana and Lakshay Sangwan saw out the rest of the day to secure a draw.

Final score: Haryana 419 (Dheeru Singh 147, Junaid Khan 2-48) & 105-6 (Ankit Kumar 31, Musheer Khan 3-34) DREW with Mumbai 245 (Akhil Herwadkar 55, Lakshay Sangwan 3-30) & 321 (Suryansh Shegde 66, Amit Rana 3-71). Haryana took the first innings lead.

Chhattisgarh v Jammu and Kashmir: Day 4 round-up

At the end of day three, J&K were in the driver's seat. In reply to Chhattisgarh's 278, they racked up 587-9, riding on Shubham Khajuria's double hundred (202). He was well supported by Sahil Lotra (107). They then managed to land a couple of early blows with the ball, reducing Chhattisgarh to 33-2.

But day four belonged to the Chhattisgarh batters – just two of them. Anuj Tiwari and Prateek Yadav, who were not out overnight continued to bat and bat, scoring 85 and 148 respectively. After the pair remained unbeaten for two whole sessions, the teams agreed on a draw during the tea break with Chhattisgarh at 276-2.

Final score: Chhattisgarh 278 (Ayush Pandey 138, Abid Mushtaq 4-47) & 276-2 (Prateek Yadav 148*, Abid Mushtaq 1-69) DREW with Jammu and Kashmir 587-9d (Shubham Khajuria 202, Utkarsh Tiwari 4-186). Jammu & Kashmir took the first innings lead.
