Both sides copped heavy defeats in the opening round of games. Lancashire were walloped for 150 runs in 15.4 overs by Leicestershire, who navigated a time-pressured chase with eight balls and seven wickets to spare. Durham were skittled for 106 in their first innings by Yorkshire, eventually slipping to a six-wicket reversal.
The North Group is, by County Championship placings, the weakest in the Bob Willis Trophy. Yorkshire and Lancashire, promoted last year, are the only two Division One sides in the six.
