Better than Dravid: Harry Brook overtakes several all-time greats with ICC rankings peak

Harry Brook achieves ICC No.1 ranking

Harry Brook rose to the top of the ICC Test batting rankings in the latest updates released today (December 11), going past several legends of the game in the process.

Brook has been in phenomenal form with the bat. This year, he has scored 1,099 runs from 11 games at an average of 61.05, with four hundreds. Three of those hundreds have come in the last five Tests, including a triple hundred in Multan, a 171 in Christchurch, and a 123 in Wellington.

This run-scoring spree has taken him to 898 rating points, one more than his compatriot Joe Root, whom he has overtaken to the top spot of the ICC Test batting rankings.

Brook overtakes several greats, equals Sachin Tendulkar

Incidentally, Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in the history of international cricket, had achieved a career-high rating of 898 in Tests, which came in 2002 after a Test against Zimbabwe. Brook has now equalled that just 23 Test matches into his career.

He has also gone past some of the legends of the game like former Australia captain Steve Waugh (a peak of 895 points), former India captain Rahul Dravid (892 points), Javed Miandad (885 points), Mahela Jayawardene (883) and many more.

Overall, Brook is joint-34th on the list alongside Tendulkar. Immediately above him is Michael Clarke, whose career-best rating was 900, followed by Shivnarine Chanderpaul (901) and Hashim Amla (907).

Root, who is currently sitting at 897 points, one below Brook, is 17th on this list, having achieved a peak rating of 932 after the first Test against Pakistan earlier this year.

At the top of the list is, unsurprisingly, Don Bradman, with 961 points, followed by Steve Smith at second, who had reached as high as 947 in 2017. At present though, Smith has fallen way down and is joint-11th in the ICC Test rankings with a rating of 708.
