A limited-overs match taking place under floodlights at Eden Gardens in Kolkata

The inaugural season of the Bengal Pro T20 League is set to get underway in Kolkata on June 11. Organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), it is the latest in a string of state-association led franchise tournaments in India, alongside the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Maharashtra Premier League and Chhatisgarh Premier League.

What makes the Bengal Pro T20 League different from others in India is that each franchise will have both a men's and women's team from inception. The only other major franchise league in the world to have implemented such a system is The Hundred, organised by the England & Wales Cricket Board.

A total of eight teams will take part in the 2024 season, owned by various companies based in and around West Bengal including Shrachi Sports Ventures, Rashmi Group and Servotech Power Systems. Current and former international cricketers like Manoj Tiwary, Mukesh Kumar, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh have been roped in as team captains.

The full list of teams is as follows: Adamas Warriors (captains Anustup Majumdar and Dhara Gujjar), Harbour Diamonds (Manoj Tiwary & Sukanya Parida), Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers (Abishek Porel & Mita Paul), Murshidabad Kings (Sudip Kumar Gharami & Deepti Sharma), Rarh Tigers (Shahbaz Ahmed & Titas Sadhu), Rashmi Medinipur Wizards (Abhimanyu Easwaran & Richa Ghosh), Servotech Siliguri Strikers (Akash Deep & Priyanka Bala) and Sobisco Smashers Malda (Mukesh Kumar & Hrishita Basu).

The league's round-robin stage will run from June 11 to June 25, with the playoffs scheduled from June 26-28. All matches for the men's tournament will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata while the women's matches will be at Jadavpur University's Salt Lake Campus.
