Ben Stokes will be available to play four matches for Northern Superchargers in the 2024 Hundred, after missing the competition last year to manage his workload.
When was the last time Stokes played in The Hundred?
The England Test captain has not featured in a Hundred match since the 2021 season, when he played two matches for the Headingley-based side.
In 2022, he pulled out to manage his workload ahead of the following England Test series against South Africa, and last year didn't play in order to rest in between the Ashes series and 2023 World Cup.
Following several other of their senior players opting to miss the tournament, the ECB were reportedly set to offer extra funds as an incentive for their centrally contracted players to play in the competition. Jonny Bairstow also missed the whole of the tournament last year, while Stokes has still only played two matches since the it's inception.
Northern Superchargers finished at the bottom of the men's table in 2023, having won only two of their eight matches. This year, a new leadership duo will takeover from head coach James Foster and previous captain James Parnell, with Andrew Flintoff taking the coaching reigns and Harry Brook the captaincy.
When will Stokes' stint in The Hundred start?
After England's Test series against West Indies concludes on July 30, by which time Northern Superchargers will already have played two of their matches, Stokes will next be required for England duty for the Test series against Sri Lanka. That series begins on August 21, after the conclusion of The Hundred. In between, Stokes is scheduled to play four games in The Hundred.
Stokes will join a strong squad at Headingley, which includes England white-ball stars Adil Rashid, Jason Roy and Reece Topley alongside Brook, as well as Nicholas Pooran, Daniel Sams and Matthew Short.
