Ben Stokes retired hurt on day two of England’s warm-up match in Colombo after being struck on the left arm.

Stokes lasted just 15 balls before being forced off the field, hit near the elbow attempting a pull off Lahiru Kumara.

He later returned to replace Joe Root, who retired having gone to a century.

The three-Test series begins in Galle on November 6.
