Avon & Somerset Police have passed their file on the Ben Stokes case to the Crown Prosecution Service for charging advice.

The CPS will now consider whether and how to charge Stokes for the Bristol incident.

In a tweeted statement, police also confirmed that a 27-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket.

Stokes caused a stir earlier this week when he flew to New Zealand to play domestic cricket, raising speculation that he might yet appear in the Ashes.

But the CPS are likely to take more time yet to consider the case, and until their decision is known, Andrew Strauss has said, the ECB’s own disciplinary process cannot begin.
