After the hosts wrapped up a convincing 3-0 ODI series win over a much-changed West Indies side in Chattogram, we’ve put together our team of the series.
Tamim Iqbal (c)
3 matches, 158 runs @ 52.66
A stalwart of Bangladesh cricket for the last decade, Tamim continues to excel at the top of the order for his country. He capitalised on the inexperienced Windies attack and failed to pass fifty on just one occasion which was still a knock of 44 in the first ODI.
Shakib Al Hasan
3 matches, 113 runs @ 56.5 |6 wickets @ 8.33
In his first series of international cricket since September 2019 following a ban for breaching the ICC Anti Corruption code, Shakib announced his return to the highest level with a string of masterful performances. After single-handedly dismantling the visitors with the ball in the first ODI by taking 4-8, he recaptured his consistent form with the bat in some handy knocks including a half-century in the final game of the series.
Nkrumah Bonner
3 matches, 51 runs @ 17
In a series punctuated by low scores Bonner provided some of the marginally-better performances of the series with the bat, despite his duck in the first ODI. A victim of his versatility, he was shunted up the order as the series progressed; he failed to make the most of his two good starts.
Rovman Powell
3 matches, 116 runs @ 38.66
Arguably the Windies’ best player in a difficult series for a squad decimated by the withdrawals of 10 senior players. After struggling to nail down a spot in the team through his career to date, some enterprising batting performances will only help his case moving forward.
Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
3 matches, 92 runs @ 92 | 7 dismissals
With 221 ODIs under his belt, the veteran saw his side home in the first and second ODI before hitting 64 in the final game of the series to set up victory. The elder statesman proves to be ever-reliable behind the stumps, too.
Mahmudullah
3 matches, 73 runs @ 73
Barely required in the first two games of the series when his side cruised to victory, Mahmudullah struck an imposing 64* off just 43 deliveries in the final match to take the hosts to an ultimately match-winning total of 297-6.
Raymon Reifer
3 matches, 29 runs @ 9.66 | 3 wickets @ 26.33
Not a series to write home about with the bat for the all-rounder. The plucky left-armer showed some resistance and craft with the ball to claim a trio of scalps across the series.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz
3 matches, 7 wickets @ 10.28
Despite being just 23-years-old Mehedi already has a wealth of experience in international cricket and looks to be here to stay following another series of strong performances. The right-arm finger-spinner led the attack masterfully in the second game of the series, where he claimed impressive figures of 4-25.
Akeal Hosein
3 matches, 4 wickets @ 29.25
The most potent Windies bowler of the series, the left-arm off-spinner’s performances were even more impressive considering it was his first series in international cricket. Hosein bowled with real zip, particularly on debut in the series opener where he claimed 3-26, but ultimately his teammates failed to give him much to work with after their displays with the bat.
Hasan Mahmud
2 matches, 4 wickets @ 20.5
Heralded as one of Bangladesh’s brightest fast bowling prospects, Mahmud excelled in his first ODI series which gave a glimpse into what is to come from him. His 3-28 in the first game was his stand-out performance of the series which showcased the sheer pace he is able to bowl at. One to watch.
Mustafizur Rahman
3 matches, 6 wickets @ 9.83
The left-armer bowled with exceptional control across the series and caused all sorts of problems for the Windies batsman with his ability to swing the ball late. A stalwart of the Bangladesh attack who continues to produce the goods.
