Anamul Haque gets 50th 100

Anamul Haque Bijoy became the first Bangladeshi to hit 50 professional hundreds, thereby fulfilling a promise he had made in 2014.

Anamul had made his first-class and List A debuts in the 2008-09 season, but it was not until 2012-13 that he played for Bangladesh. He played for the national level in all three formats. From 49 ODIs, his most successful format, he made 1,352 runs at 29.39.

His three hundreds in the format remain his only ones in international cricket. He did not reach 25 in any of his 10 Test innings, while he got only one fifty from 20 T20Is.

Out of favour in all three formats, Anamul continued to score heavily in domestic cricket. His eyes were set on, among other ambitions, the target of 50 hundreds across format.

Anamul Haque fulfils 50 centuries prophecy

On February 8, 2025, Anamul shared a page of his diary with a note. Dated September 8, 2014, the note ran: “2025 er oi bochhor shesh hobar aage amar century thakbe 50ta” (I shall have 50 hundreds before 2025 is over).

By then, Anamul had 47 hundreds under his belt. In March, he made two hundreds in the space of a week for Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League: 149 not out in 143 balls against Mohammedan Sporting Club, followed by 144 not out in 142 against Gulshan.

Then, on April 21, Anamul made 110 not out in 105 balls against Legends of Rupganj to reach the coveted milestone. Anamul now has the most hundreds by a Bangladeshi (50), followed by Naeem Islam (46) and Tamim Iqbal (45). Naeem and Tamim are both active in professional cricket.
