R Ashwin has hilariously used the picture of his infamous Mankad dismissal of Jos Buttler to appeal to everyone to “stay inside, stay safe”.

Ashwin used the throwback picture on the one-year anniversary of his use of the Mankad to dismiss a high-flying Buttler during the IPL encounter between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals in 2019.

At the time, Ashwin came in for a lot of flak for doing so without warning Buttler, even as the debate around the mode of dismissal divided batsmen and bowlers the world over.

Now, as the world struggles to deal with a pandemic, Ashwin has tweeted the picture, imploring the need for everyone to stay indoors, less than a day after India went into a three-week lockdown to contain Covid-19.

When a fan replied to the tweet, saying “could have given a warning” – we’re not sure if he was referring to India’s sudden three-week lockdown or Ashwin’s decision to Mankad Buttler without a warning – Ashwin responded saying: “Corona spread to China, USA and Italy despite warnings”.
