Ashton Agar, the Australian all-rounder, suffered a gruesome injury after he was hit straight on the nose while attempting a catch to dismiss his brother Wes, during the 18th match of the Marsh One-Day Cup, played between South Australia and Western Australia on Sunday, November 17.
Agar copped a blow on his nose attempting to take a fairly straightforward chance to dismiss Wes, while fielding at mid-on in the 41st over of South Australia’s chase. The 26-year-old suffered a laceration to the bridge of his nose, as the ball struck right between his eyes while making the attempt. Wes immediately rushed to see his brother’s well-being, after blood could be seen all over Ashton’s face. The force of the blow had knocked off his hat and sunglasses and he left the field after getting some medical assistance.
Thankfully Ashton Agar is okay after a gruesome facial injury, for which he had his own brother to blame! #MarshCup https://t.co/RDqDvOTLx0 pic.twitter.com/Yf9HnAM4z5

Agar seemed fine as he was he was photographed smiling while leaving the field, but couldn’t take further part in the match. This was after he had bowled nine overs of left-arm spin with returns of 1/48.

Agar’s injury didn’t deter Western Australia from registering a fourth win from six games in the competition. D’Arcy Short managed to get rid of Wes in the very next over following the painful incident, before Callum Ferguson threatened to take the game away with a 56-run last wicket stand with Daniel Worrall. Ferguson’s enterprising 125-ball 127 was brought to an end by Jhye Richardson, to complete a narrow 6-run win for Western Australia.
Earlier in the day, Wes Agar had led South Australia’s charge with the ball, claiming five wickets, including Ashton’s, during Western Australia’s first innings effort of 252 all-out in 49.1 overs.
