Nathan Lyon and Joe Root share a light-hearted moment

The dates for the 2025-26 Ashes have been announced with Perth hosting the series opener from November 21, 2025.

Cricket Australia have revealed the dates for the 2025-2026 Ashes, making some significant changes to the traditional schedule. The first Test will be played at Optus Stadium in Perth between November 21 and 25, 2025, followed by a day-night second Test at Brisbane between December 4 and 8.

The third fixture will be played at the Adelaide Oval between December 17 and 21. However, it will be a day game instead of the usual day-night format. Melbourne will host the Boxing Day Test from December 26 to 30, while Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is the venue for the fifth and final Test, set to be played from January 4 to 8, 2026.

The Gabba in Brisbane has hosted three day-night fixtures previously, including West Indies’ historic win over Australia earlier this year. For the first time, an Ashes opener will not be organised at the venue since 1982-83 when Perth hosted the curtain-raiser.

There has been some uncertainty over Gabba due to the renovation plans for the 2032 Olympics. With no Test matches scheduled at the stadium from the 2026-27 season onwards, the upcoming Ashes Test could also be the last at the venue.
