Punjab won the toss and elected to field first at the Adsa Railways Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad. Arshdeep Singh took the new ball and didn't need much time to get the first breakthrough. The India seamer trapped Angkrish Raghuvanshi lbw on the last ball of the first over, before doing the same with the other opener Ayush Mhatre in the third.

Sanvir Singh then dismissed Mumbai No.3 Hardik Tamore in the fourth over to leave them struggling at 11-3. That was when captain Shreyas Iyer was joined by India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. Neither, however, was able to survive Arshdeep's inspired new-ball burst.

Suryakumar was caught on the last ball of the fifth over for a duck while Iyer was cleaned up by Arshdeep on the last ball of the seventh. Shivam Dube walked at No.6 and suffered a similar fate. After adding 33 for the sixth wicket with Suryansh Shedge, he became Arshdeep's fifth victim, giving him his second five-for of his List A career.

Arshdeep's first spell lasted seven overs, after which his figures read 5-29 with one maiden. At the time of writing, Mumbai were 141-7 from 30 overs, with Shardul Thakur and Atharva Ankolekar at the crease.

Arshdeep's career-best List A figures are 5-37. There's a good chance that he might end up eclipsing that in this game.

Punjab and Mumbai have both won two and lost one out of three games in the 2024/25 Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign so far and are at No.3 and No.2 on the Group C points table. Arshdeep played two of those games for Punjab, picking 1-67 against Nagaland and 2-48 against Karnataka. He has only played eight ODIs for India so far and has 12 wickets to his name at 24.08 apiece and an economy rate of 5.05.
