Australia legend Shane Warne questioned Cricket Australia’s handling of the Sandpapergate scandal while lambasting the governing body over the handling of former men’s head coach Justin Langer.
Talking to Fox Cricket’s Follow-on podcast, the former leg spinner began by discussing the treatment towards his former teammate Langer, which he described as ‘pathetic’. He tempered his praise for the present Australia side stating that they were not yet a great side. The discussion continued as Warne raised the Sandpapergate scandal, questioning whether the real “truth” was out there or not.
“We still don’t know the truth about what actually happened at Sandpapergate. Does Cricket Australia (CA) know the truth? Do they? Do the same people know the truth about Sandpapergate? Are they hiding anything?”
“We’ve seen the fast bowlers and the bowling cartel as they call themselves, or ‘Winx’ and ‘GOAT’ and all these unbelievable nicknames they have for themselves. These guys wrote a letter saying they had no knowledge of whatever is going on. Now that might be correct, but if it’s not and they’ve done that, there’s all sorts of whispers or rumours that we all have heard. And one day the truth will come out.”
“Does Cricket Australia know the truth? Is it the truth that we’ve heard? Why should Smith and Warner be the only two? Who knows. But the truth will come out.”
Warne then went on to blame CA and discuss how tough times lay ahead.”
“And if Cricket Australia are hiding something again after Justin Langer, Tim Paine, we can go on about all the controversies that Cricket Australia has just bungled, messed up and handled completely wrong.”
