Anya Shrubsole has become the first cricketer to be nominated for Sports Personality of the Year since Ian Bell in 2013.
The England women’s bowler has made the shortlist for the BBC award following her dramatic match-winning spell of five wickets in 19 balls (and 6-46 overall) in the World Cup final against India at Lord’s in July.
Shrubsole tweeted about her surprise after the shortlist was announced saying she was “humbled to be named amongst some incredible athletes”.
