There were concerns over the fitness of James Anderson after he was struck on the inside of his knee by a return shot while bowling during Lancashire’s One-Day Cup semi-final defeat to Hampshire.

He left the field and was unable to complete his spell as the Northern side slid to a four-wicket defeat.

Glen Chapple, Lancashire head coach, labelled the knock a “nasty blow” but felt that there would be no long-term doubts over Anderson’s fitness.

“It is a nasty blow in a painful area,” he said. “We don’t know but we think that it will be a nasty bruise that will settle down in the next few days. The physio will see him in the morning.

“He walked off there but it is a difficult area. As soon as there is any swelling in there it will restrict your movement and limit your strength. I imagine it will be painful for a few days.”
