Jimmy Anderson has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, the ECB confirmed on Tuesday, August 6.
The seam bowler pulled up four overs into his spell on the first day of the opener at Edgbaston, having spent four weeks on the sidelines with a calf injury in the lead up to the match. Scans thereafter confirmed he suffered a recurrence of the injury.
“England seam bowler Jimmy Anderson, who left the field during the first Ashes Test match against Australia at Edgbaston on day one due to tightness to his right calf, underwent an MRI scan this week,” an ECB statement read.

“Anderson will miss the second Test match, which starts at Lord’s on Wednesday August 14. He will be reassessed on an ongoing basis regarding his availability for the rest of Ashes series.”
Jofra Archer is likely to replace Anderson. The 24-year-old, who starred for England in the World Cup, wasn’t picked for the first Test with a side strain, but has played T20s for Sussex Sharks in the T20 Blast over the week.
