Alyssa Healy has warned England she is ready to take her performances up a notch in a forthcoming Ashes series she predicts will be “feisty”.

Australia’s star opener, now firmly established at the top of the order, will travel to England with her team-mates as the International Cricket Council’s current Women’s Twenty20 International Player of the Year and as the holder of Aussie cricket’s prestigious Belinda Clark Award.

There was no sign of a let-up in the heavy scoring of recent months as Healy hit a 55-ball 49 in a warm-up game against Australia A but, ominously for the England side that awaits her arrival, she is convinced there is more to come.

“I’d like to think I’m still improving as a cricketer and have a lot to learn,” said Healy, quoted on cricket.com.au.

“I’ve identified a few key things that I could’ve done better last year and I’ve been working on them over the last few months and hopefully we’ll see them come to fruition in the Ashes.

“It’s been a busy month or so build-up. We’re ready to get on the plane and I know I’m ready to go and get amongst it. It’s always a highlight of your career. It’s always feisty and fiery and good fun to be a part of.”

The points-based Ashes series comprises three ODIs and three T20 matches either side of a single Test.

Australia play two warm-up matches against England Academy at Loughborough ahead of the opening ODI at Leicester’s Grace Road on July 2.
