Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah has been banned for six years from all cricket-related activities, over multiple charges of corruption.
The charges include an attempt to fix a match during the 2019/20 Bangladesh Premier League, along with covering his conduct during the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League.
Shafiqullah was found guilty of breaching four provisions of the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s anti-corruption code. Those include: Article 2.1.1, which deals with making an effort to fix a domestic match, Article 2.1.3, which covers accepting or offering bribes or other rewards to fix the outcome of a domestic match, Article 2.1.4, which deals with involving another player in the offence under Article 2.1.1, and Article 2.4.4, which includes provisions for failing to report an approach.

“This is a very serious offence, where a senior national player is involved in the corruption of a high-profile domestic game in APL T20 2018,” said Sayed Anwar Shah Quraishi, the ACB’s senior anti-corruption manager. “The player had also attempted but failed to get one of his teammates to engage in corruption in another high-profile game during the BPL 2019.”
Apart from serving out the ban, Shafiqullah will also assist the ACB with their education programs, designed with the aim of preventing younger players from committing similar offences.
