Sneh Rana picked up her career-best ODI figures, with her 5-43 inflicting a South Africa collapse in the second match of the tri-series today (April 29).

India recorded their second win of the tri-series, also featuring Sri Lanka. After winning the first game against the hosts, India managed 276-6 batting first at Colombo against South Africa. Pratika Rawal created history by becoming the fastest batter to 500 runs in the format, while Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur scored crucial runs as India crossed the 270-run mark.

In reply, South Africa were well-placed after a 140-run stand for the first wicket, with Tazmin Brits making 109 in 107 and Laura Wolvaardt contributing with a 75-ball 43. Wolvaardt was the first to depart, falling to Deepti Sharma. South Africa lost their next four wickets for 67 runs, but a steady stand between Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus ensured they were on their way towards the target.

Sneh Rana becomes first Indian to take WODI 5-for vs SA

Luus fell in the 42nd over to Shree Charani, and it was a Rana show thereafter, as she dismissed the next three batters in the space of six balls to reduce South Africa to 251-7.

There were three run-outs in the innings, as the Proteas fell just 15 short of the target, losing their last eight wickets for 80 runs as they were bowled out for 261. The victory strengthened India's hold on the top spot of the points table.

Rana’s figures are also the best for India in a women's ODI against South Africa. She is also the only Indian woman with a five-for against the opposition, with five others picking up four-wicket hauls in India-South Africa WODIs previously.

This series is also marking the ODI comeback of Rana, who last played a game in December 2023 against Australia. She has played 29 ODIs so far, picking up 37 wickets at an average of 29.

India’s next game in the series is against Sri Lanka on Sunday (May 4).
