Against Nagaland in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match at Ahmedabad, Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur blasted 73 not out in 28 balls to lift his team to 403-7.
Mumbai amassed 403-7 in a Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium after Nagaland captain Rongsen Jonathan won the toss and opted to field. It would have been the joint-highest total of this season, had Punjab not got 424-5 against Saurashtra today. Baroda had also made 403-4 against Kerala.
Opener Ayush Mhatre led the onslaught with a 117-ball 181 (the highest individual score in this edition), an innings that included 11 sixes (another season record, along with Kartik Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad) and 15 fours. Mhatre added 156 for the first wicket with opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56) and 94 with No.4 Siddhesh Lad (39).
Nagaland then hit back to take four for 22 in 25 balls. Mumbai were 290-6 when Thakur joined Prasad Pawar (38 in 28 balls). The pair added 72 in 41 balls, and Thakur continued even after Pawar’s dismissal as Himanshu Singh was content with rotating the strike.
This was Thakur’s fourth List A fifty. One of these came in an ODI against South Africa (50 not out in 2021-22), and another for India A against New Zealand A (51 in 2022-23). His only bigger score in the format is 92, against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Thakur then took new ball, and he and Royston Dias struck twice each to leave Nagaland reeling at 23-5. At the time of writing, Nagaland were 58-5 in 19 overs with opener Sedezhalie Rupero and J Suchith at the crease.
