Mississauga Masters chased 100 in 4.2 overs against White Rock Warriors in their Canada Super60 fixture, and the boundary sizes have attracted a lot of eyeballs.

After the Warriors accumulated 99-8 in their 10 overs, the Masters swept the target away in 26 deliveries, with Alex Lees and George Munsey putting up an unbeaten 102-run stand after losing opener Colin Munro for a golden duck. Lees was unbeaten with 59 off 16, while Munsey registered an 11-ball 30*.

More than the result and the astonishing chase, the boundary sizes for the tournament have become the talk of the town. In a video posted on X, Richard Gleeson can be seen starting his run-up with the boundary line just behind the right-arm pacer, raising concerns about the quality of cricket that is being played.

‘Boundaries are like 40m’

Former South Africa batter Herschelle Gibbs took to his X account, weighing in on the dimensions of the boundary being too short. Quoting a video showcasing Lees and Munsey tonking the ball around the park with great ease, Gibbs wrote, “Cute" and the the boundaries were "like 40m.”

As part of another quote reposting the same video, Gibbs wrote: “Imagine Shoaib [Akhtar] bowling, the keeper and slip would be behind the boundary.”

“As blokes who played Test cricket not too long ago, are they not embarrassed?”, wrote a user on X. Sam Billings, who was behind the stumps when Lees and Munsey made a mockery of the 100-run target, had a hilarious thing to say in response to the tweet.

The dimensions of the boundaries are extremely short because the venue, BC Place, is a rectangular stadium in Vancouver, designed to play football and host major events, and not a cricket game. This is why the straight boundaries are extremely small, coupled with big pockets towards either of the square boundaries.

The second edition of the Canada Super60 will be played till October 4. The Masters sit atop the points table with three victories in as many games, while the Warriors have accumulated three losses, reeling at the bottom, with four teams separating the two.
