Usman Khawaja admitted that he was “cooked in the second session” of the day when his 141 saved Australia from defeat in their first Test against Pakistan.
Going into day five three wickets down and more than 300 runs away from the target set by Pakistan, defeat seemed inevitable for Australia. Defiant knocks from debutant Travis Head, captain Tim Paine and Khawaja helped Australia finish the final day with two wickets remaining, thus securing the most unlikely of draws.
