A round-up of the best tweets, instas and videos from the world of cricket this week.

In a week that saw England start their Test series in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe record their first away Test victory in 17 years and Virat Kohl celebrate his 30th birthday, social media was as rife with action as ever.

The first Test between Sri Lanka and England at Galle is also Rangana Herath’s last before he wanders off into retirement. On the Test’s first day he became the third bowler to take 100 Test wickets at a single venue. Not a bad way to sign off.

The first Test has also been an important one for Surrey. Their captain, Rory Burns, and wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes both made their Test debuts with the latter registering a maiden Test century to make the affair all the more sweeter. They joined fellow Surrey young gun Sam Curran in the side.

It was a momentous week for Zimbabwean cricket, too. They won their first Test match overseas in 17 years in Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli has been in immense form in 2018 and this week he celebrated his 30th birthday. He thanked everyone who wished him a happy birthday in a video on Instagram and used the opportunity to announce the release of the new Virat Kohli app where Kohl fans will be able to access more, unadulterated Kohl content.

OK, so this photo wasn’t taken this week, but the Wisden Instagram account unearthed this gem of a photo featuring a smug Mike Gatting pouring what looks like very cold water on a youthful, ale-holding Mike Atherton during the 1994/5 Ashes series. Chill out, Athers.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma made history as he became the first player to hit four T20I hundreds in India’s comprehensive win over West Indies. Is there a better limited overs opening batsman in world cricket?

History was made in very different circumstances in New Zealand as Joe Carter and Brett Hampton combined to hit 43 runs – yes, 43 – off a single over.  You won’t be too surprised to learn that it’s a new List A record.

The World T20 is due to start this week and players from all teams had a bit of fun in front of the cameras, acting out their favourite emojis.

One of the players expected to star at the tournament is Ellyse Perry who turned 28 this week. The super-talented Perry made her international debuts in both cricket and football at the age of just 16. Show off.

Finally, speed king Trent Boult became the third Black Caps bowler to take an ODI hat-trick after Danny Morrison and Shane Bond. Take a bow.
