Stoinis out, Ellis in as Cricket Australia announce 2024/25 men’s contract list

Marcus Stoinis

Cricket Australia have announced their men’s central contract list for the 2024/25 season. They come into effect from July 1, 2024.

Marcus Stoinis was one of five cricketers whose contracts Cricket Australia did not renew for the 2024/25 season. The other four were David Warner – who retired from Tests and ODIs after the 2023/24 season and will quit T20Is after this year’s World Cup – Ashton Agar, Michael Neser, and Marcus Harris.

Stoinis, currently part of the Lucknow Super Giants unit in the ongoing 2024 IPL, played in the 2023 World Cup as well as in last month’s T20I series at home against West Indies. Agar last played in South Africa in 2023, but just like Stoinis, is a contender for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Neser, too, played in South Africa in 2023. Earlier that year, he had been part of the squad that won the World Test Championship final against India at the Kia Oval. Warner had himself backed Harris as his successor as Usman Khawaja’s opening partner in Test cricket, but the role went to Steve Smith instead.

However, players can earn contracts by accruing 12 points during the 2024/25 season, which they can earn by getting selected to play Test matches (five points a game), ODIs (two), or T20Is (two). Apart from Stoinis, Agar, Neser, and Harris, the likes of Tim David or Jason Behrendorff will be on the line to secure a Cricket Australia contract.

New inductees for the 2024/25 season include fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis, all-rounder Aaron Hardie, and batter Matthew Short.

Cricket Australia Men’s contracts for 2024/25: Pat Cummins, Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Jhye Richardson, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.
