Team Selector: Pick your England Test XI to face Sri Lanka

The first Test of England’s series in Sri Lanka begins later this week with Jonny Bairstow among the headline recalls in a squad that is without some star names.

Bairstow, who is one of the high profile recalls, has not played the longest form since last year’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa while Ben Foakes will return to the country he made his international debut in, while Essex’s Dan Lawrence makes the cut, too.

Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes have both been rested, with the ECB stating they will return for the Test series against India starting in February.

Rory Burns will misses the tour to be wife who gave birth earlier in January. Ollie Pope has not been selected but has travelled with the squad to continue his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury.

There will be some big decisions for Joe Root and Chris Silverwood to make ahead of the first Test in Galle on January 14. Where will Bairstow fit in the XI? With Moeen Ali ruled out of the first Test after a positive COVID-19 test upon arrival in Sri Lanak, will England still field a three-pronged spin attack? And who will open the batting alongside Dom Sibley?

We’re giving you the chance to have your say on who should get the nod. England head coach Chris Silverwood has explained that everyone in the touring party – Moeen aside – is available for selection for the first Test. Pick your preferred England XI from the pool of players below, and share your team with friends or on social media.
