Ellyse Perry named Women’s Cricketer of the Year, ICC announce teams of 2019

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry has won the Rachel Heyhoe-Flint Award for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.

It is the second time Perry has claimed the honour – she won it for the first time in 2017 – and comes off the back of a year that saw her score three hundreds and help Australia to an Ashes series win in England.

“It’s an amazing honour and I’m a little bit shocked, given how many amazing performances there have been across the year,” Perry said. “It’s amazing to be acknowledged and I do truly appreciate it. It’s a really nice way to finish the year on a personal note.”

Perry’s 441 runs and 21 wickets in 12 ODIs also saw her claim the award for ODI Cricketer of the Year. Her teammate Alyssa Healy was named T20I Cricketer of the Year for the second year in the row.

“I’m really pumped to be awarded the T20I Cricketer of the Year,” said Healy, who hit a world-record 148 not out off 61 balls against Sri Lanka in October.

“The Australian women’s team had a fantastic 12-month period and we played some really consistent T20 cricket. Whilst the individual award is really nice for me personally, I think it was great to see our team play so well throughout that 12-month period, especially leading into a home World Cup in 2020.”

Both Healy and Perry were also named in the ICC’s teams of the year, with compatriot Meg Lanning leading both the ODI and T20I sides. Megan Schutt and India’s Smriti Mandhana also made their way into the two teams.

The Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year was Chanida Sutthiruang, who helped Thailand qualify for next year’s T20 World Cup after taking 12 wickets at the Qualifier tournament.
