Watch: Uncapped IPL batter walks off after Narine’s LBW appeal, doesn’t wait for umpire

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Lalit Yadav did not wait for the umpire’s LBW decision, walking after being hit on the pads off the bowling of Sunil Narine during the IPL encounter between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021.

Off the third delivery of the 15th over, Capitals’ Yadav failed to read a carrom ball by Narine, as he prodded forward and played down the wrong line. The ball struck his pads in line with the stumps and looked like it would have crashed onto the off-stump. The batter did not even wait for the umpire’s decision before walking away for a three-ball duck, as the commentators were bemused at his refusal to even discuss taking a review with the skipper Rishabh Pant.

“He’s literally walking off to take a shower here,” exclaimed commentator Matthew Hayden on air. “He didn’t get warm enough to take a shower Haydos. He’s only been there three balls. He actually walked,” quipped co-commentator Simon Doull, as Narine snared his second wicket of the match.

Delhi could manage only 127-9 in their 20 overs at Sharjah, as they are looking for their ninth win of the season. With 16 points from 10 matches, Delhi have almost sealed their playoffs spot, while KKR currently have eight points from the same number of games.
