Alastair Cook Test wicket
by Wisden Staff 2 minute watch

Seven. Believe it or not, that’s Alastair Cook’s Test bowling average. On the day he hangs up his professional boots for the last time, take a look back at his one and only Test wicket.

The former England captain bowled just 18 deliveries for his country but still managed to take one scalp – back in 2014 against India.

After bowling one over against South Africa at Lord’s in 2008, Cook next turned his arm over six years later at Trent Bridge.

In a high-scoring match that was meandering towards a draw, Cook brought on himself for a trundle and took a wicket in the final over of the match, getting Ishant Sharma to faintly flick a ball down the leg side into the hands of Matt Prior.

There were plenty of laughs to go around the England side as Cook celebrated his first and final Test wicket.
