Watch: 39-year-old Anderson channels inner Collingwood, almost pulls off one-handed diving screamer

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: James Anderson, 39, almost pulled off a one-handed stunner during Australia’s first innings of the third Ashes Test match.

Anderson had a memorable outing with the ball during the third Ashes Test match, picking up 4-33 as he helped restrict the Australians to 267 all out. The 39-year-old was also on top of his game in the field and almost snatched a one-handed screamer at mid-on during the 82nd over.

The fourth ball by Mark Wood to Pat Cummins saw the batter pull the back of a length delivery towards the right of Anderson, who was stationed at mid-on. The England player threw himself at the ball, and was almost parallel to the ground at one stage, as he attempted to hold on with one hand. However, Anderson was unable to complete what could have been the catch of the series as Cummins survived.

The Australia captain was dismissed three overs later by Anderson himself, who clinched his fourth wicket of the innings.
