Watch: Rishabh Pant shadow bats extravagantly as Anderson runs in

by Wisden Staff 26.7 minute read

Rishabh Pant is no ordinary cricketer – the left-handed batsman has dazzled in his brief international career so far with audacious strokeplay and game-changing innings.

But it wasn’t just what he was doing on strike that caught attention during the third Test between England and India at Headingley; his movements at the non-striker’s end were highly unique too.

As James Anderson ran in to bowl at Ajinkya Rahane on day four, Pant was seen shadow-batting off strike, practising a whip off the legs. In fact, it wasn’t till Anderson was finally approaching the crease that Pant turned to face Rahane’s end!

Unfortunately for Pant, he wasn’t able to show off too many of his strokes on the day – he perished for 1 off 7 balls, falling victim to the rampant Ollie Robinson. It capped off an uneventful match for the wicketkeeper, as he recorded just two runs in his first knock of the game.
