Virat Kohli ruled out of county cricket stint with Surrey

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Virat Kohli will not be playing county cricket for Surrey in June due to a neck injury that will rule him out until the middle of next month.

The India captain sustained the injury during his penultimate IPL match on May 17, and a BCCI press release has confirmed he will arrive at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on June 15, where he will undergo a fitness test ahead of India’s tour of England in July.

Virat Kohli will no longer be playing for Surrey in June.

A report from the Mumbai Mirror this morning suggested the batsman saw an orthopaedic surgeon in suburban Mumbai, who diagnosed a herniated disc, which could hamper his England trip. The BCCI has denied there has been such an injury.

“The BCCI Medical Team is confident that Mr Kohli will regain full fitness ahead of India’s upcoming tours to Ireland and England,” the release said.

Kohli’s county deal with Surrey was thought to have caused friction with India officials because it meant he would miss the nation’s Test against Afghanistan.
