Strauss yet to be contacted by CA, unlikely to take up offer if they do – report

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Andrew Strauss is, according to reports, being touted by Cricket Australia to fill their role of chief executive officer on a full-time basis, but according to The Times, the former England captain isn’t too keen on the move.

The Australian first reported that CA wanted Strauss to fill a position that has caused them some trouble in recent times. They’ve lost two CEOs in the last 18 months, with Kevin Roberts, who succeeded James Sutherland, leaving the role due to his poor handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nick Hockley is currently in the role on an interim basis, and CA were reportedly interested in hiring Strauss on a full-time basis – the former England captain impressed many with the way he, as ECB director of cricket, supervised an overhaul that culminated in England winning their maiden ODI World Cup last year.

However, Strauss, according to The Times, hasn’t yet been contacted by CA, and even if they did, he’s not keen on shifting base to Australia in the short term. The priority for Strauss at the moment is stability for his two teenage sons, especially after the loss of his wife Ruth to cancer in 2018.

Strauss stepped down from his full-time role with the ECB in 2018, and has taken on more advisory roles.
