Sourav Ganguly trolls Nasser Hussain over NatWest Trophy triumph

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, trolled his one-time England counterpart Nasser Hussain over India’s famous NatWest Trophy triumph on Twitter.

Ganguly took to the social media platform and posted a picture of him and Hussain posing with the NatWest Trophy before the start of the final. “Hi Nass .. when was this picture taken .. losing memory with old age …need my mates help @nassercricket,” he wrote along with the image.

The 2002 NatWest Trophy final saw India chase down an improbable 326 with instrumental knocks from Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh making the difference. Even as Zaheer Khan scored the winning runs for India, Ganguly, atop the Lord’s balcony, famously took off his shirt and waved it in furious celebration.

Hussain replied to Ganguly’s tweet with a gif of Homer Simpson disappearing into the bushes. Ganguly wasn’t about to let him go that easily, and said, “Young Nass, already thinking about captaincy @nassercricket”.

Hussain replied immediately, saying it was better to think about the captaincy than wait for Ganguly at the toss. Ganguly had no arguments there, and said, “I like the toss one better.. very smart and humour intact …stay well mate ..stay safe ….”
