Alex Hales will miss the first ODI against India at Trent Bridge on Thursday because of a side injury.

The 29-year-old Nottinghamshire player will miss out on appearing at his home ground and favourite venue. He will be monitored on a match-by-match basis and has been replaced in the squad by Dawid Malan.

The three-match ODI series follows England’s 2-1 T20 series defeat to India. The second game takes place at Lord’s on Saturday.
