Sri Lanka v England: Rain ruins opening ODI

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Only 15 overs were possible in Dambulla as rain ruined the first of five ODIs between Sri Lanka and England.

Having been inserted at the toss, England made their way to 92/2 having lost openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow before the clouds descended and the weather put paid to hopes of any more play.

Eoin Morgan had earlier named Olly Stone as one of two specialist seam bowlers in their line-up for the match.

The uncapped paceman, who was handed his cap by Darren Gough, was set to share the new ball with Chris Woakes, while Liam Dawson was included as a third specialist spinner alongside Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.
