Sam Curran earns Test debut as Ben Stokes is ruled out of second Test

Sam Curran has been handed an England Test debut at the age of 19.

The Surrey left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder replaced the injured Ben Stokes for the second Test against Pakistan at Headingley and was handed his cap by England batting coach and former Surrey man Graham Thorpe.

Curran, a swing bowler who made his county debut in 2015, has taken 104 first-class wickets at 30.44 for Surrey, for whom he takes the new ball. He has made 10 fifties and averages 27.18 with the bat.

England also replaced Mark Wood with Chris Woakes for the second Test.

England’s line-up for the second Test: Alistair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson.
