Hilarious Twitter thread compares England’s Test XI to club cricket stereotypes

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Often Test cricket can seem like a totally different sport to the one played on village greens across the UK every summer Saturday and Sunday. But sometimes the two can feel quite similar.

In a hilarious Twitter thread, user @SammyTheSnake25 argued that England’s current Test XI for the first game of their series against West Indies at the Ageas Bowl is as close as they have come to imitating your typical club side, with each player representing a subtly distinct club stereotype, as he went on to demonstrate.

Highlights include Zak Crawley – “Misses first chunk of the season as he’s still at uni. Misses at least two games for holidays/festivals” – and Dom Bess – “Works at the local sports shop, always offering to do some TLC on teammates’ bats after they’ve got out. Mum makes a fantastic tea”.

Are there any you can think of for cricketers not in this team or from other countries?
