India vs New Zealand: Latest cricket stats in 2023

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

India vs New Zealand might not instantly spring to mind as comparable to the Ashes or India vs Pakistan, but it should be regarded as one of the game’s most keenly contested rivalries.

Since ending their first Test match in 1955 in a draw India faced New Zealand on a further 204 occasions across formats.

Significant Historic Stats

At the start of the 2023 season the ledger between India and New Zealand stands as follows.

Test cricket – In 63 head-to-head Test matches India have walked away as victors on 22 occasions while New Zealand brought home victory 13 times, with 28 matches ending as draws or abandoned.

ODI – After 119 ODIs India have racked up 58 victories with 50 wins for New Zealand while 11 ended in ties or with no result.

T20I – Similarly, after 25 matches in T20Is India have won on 12 occasions while New Zealand took 10 wins with three matches ending in ties or abandoned.

This brings to us an overall head-to-head match tally of 205 games played from which India have 92 wins to New Zealand’s 73 victories while a balance of 42 games yielded a draw, tie, or no result. However, in global tournaments it is a different story.

Cricket World Cup – In nine 50-over World Cup matches New Zealand have claimed five victories with three wins going to India, and a rained-off game in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

T20 World Cup – New Zealand’s real stronghold. Out of three games New Zealand have stormed their way to three victories.

India vs New Zealand Summary

The stats reflect how closely matched the two countries are. India have the edge in Tests and ODIs, while New Zealand’s noses are in front in T20Is. However, in world tournaments, New Zealand hold sway – though the Black Caps have never managed to win a World Cup for themselves.

Betting Fun

If you’re a betting man, remember the stats never lie, however, we all realise there are times when cricket betting opportunities are scarce. Take note, New Zealand players: you can access $1 casino deposits without breaking the bank – allowing one to have just as much fun at a great online casino.
