Watch: Suryakumar Yadav launches back-to-back sixes in 23-run Sam Curran over enroute to match-winning fifty
Watch: Suryakumar Yadav smashed four boundaries in one over off Sam Curran in the IPL today (May 3), reaching his second half-century in as many games.
Yadav was subbed in as the Impact Player for Mumbai Indians after Cameron Green was out at the end of the sixth over of the chase. By the start of the 12th, which Curran was called on to bowl, he has reached 31 runs off 19 balls having hit consecutive fours off Rahul Chahar.
Curran bowled his first ball back of a length on leg stump. Yadav opened the face of his bat to guide it high into the off-side, the ball flying over backward deep point for the first maximum of the over. Yadav followed up on Curran’s next ball by launching a drive over cover for an 87-metre six. He played the extraordinary shot down on one knee, flaying the ball over cover for a classic SKY six.
Curran came in again to bowl the next delivery and found the ball blasted straight back at him this time. He almost managed to get a finger to it before the ball flew past and down to the straight boundary. A bouncer followed but was called a wide.
Three runs short of a half-century, Yadav continued to show exude confidence and display innovation. He flicked the next ball from Curran away behind square, picking it up late and running it off the face of his bat for four. As he celebrated his fifty, India women’s captain and Mumbai Indians’ WPL champion, Harmanpreet Kaur applauded from the stands.
The innings was Yadav’s third half-century of IPL 2023, coming off 23 balls. He went on to make 66 before he was out caught by Nathan Ellis at the start of the 16th over. His innings helped Mumbai Indians chase down a massive 214 runs with seven balls to spare.
