Watch: The spectacular penultimate-ball Rilee Rossouw diving stop that halted Gujarat Titans’ comeback in its tracks

Rilee Rossouw put in a spectacular dive to save a boundary in IPL 2023
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Rilee Rossouw produced an exceptional piece of fielding to prevent a seemingly certain boundary in the final over of the Delhi Capitals-Gujarat Titans IPL 2023 match, helping save his team two runs which left the Titans with seven to win off the last ball.

The chase was briefly revived when Rahul Tewatia walloped a hat-trick of sixes against Anrich Nortje, getting the equation down from 30 off nine to 12 off six. Four balls later, the tables turned again, and the Capitals had the upper hand, with Ishant Sharma conceding just three runs off the first four balls and accounting for Tewatia.

Rashid Khan was the next man in: those aware of his power-hitting skills would have known the chase wasn’t dead. The fifth ball from Ishant was a wide yorker, but Rashid still manged to get enough bat on it. It flew from his willow, but couldn’t pierce through the infield.

Rossouw stationed at cover, put in a heart-stopping dive, leaping full length and getting enough force to stop the full-blooded shot. The effort saved his side two runs, and left Gujarat Titans needing six runs to produce a Super Over. Next ball, Rashid couldn’t send away an Ishant full-toss, and the Capitals clinched the game.

The game had some great individual performances, from Shami’s special spell to Ishant’s crafty bowling and Tewatia’s six-hitting. But the one-handed stop, by Rossouw, deserves not to get lost.
