Watch: Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper Abishek Porel appealed for a stumping against Harshal Patel. They did get Harshal – but caught behind.
Royal Challengers Bangalore lost captain Faf du Plessis (22 in 16 balls) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after Delhi captain David Warner opted to bowl.
Virat Kohli (50 in 34) and Mahipal Lomror (26 in 18) both chipped in before getting out, and du Plessis promoted Harshal to No.5. In the 14th over, bowled by Axar Patel, Glenn Maxwell hit a six off the second ball, and Harshal another, off the fifth.
Axar tossed up the sixth ball outside off-stump, and Harshal went for a wild slog and missed the line completely. Porel whipped the bails off, appealed to the square-leg umpire, and celebrated, without waiting for a decision.
The umpires referred to TV umpire Michael Gough, who had to rule out the caught behind first. UltraEdge did reveal the thinnest of edges, and Harshal had to walk back. While a close call, it was convincing enough for Gough.
At the other end, Kuldeep Yadav took out Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik with the first two balls of the over, and suddenly Bangalore were 132-6 after 14.2 overs. Shahbaz Ahmed (20 not out in 12 balls) and Anuj Rawat (15 not out in 22) then took them to 174-6.
At the time of writing, Delhi were 1-1 after the first over, with Warner (1) and Mitchell Marsh (0) at the crease.
