Watch: Matheesha Pathirana channels his inner Malinga, delivers inch-perfect, middle-stump rattling yorker
Watch: Chennai Super Kings’ Matheesha Pathirana was at his stunning best in the IPL 2023 clash against Mumbai Indians today (May 6), finishing with figures of 3-15, including a wicket of Nehal Wadhera with a pinpoint yorker that went on to rattle the base of his middle stump.
Pathirana, nicknamed Malinga 2.0, due to his slingy action similar to the former MI quick, did not send down a single delivery in the first 12 overs of MI’s innings, with MS Dhoni reserving him for the death overs. The wicketkeeper was on the mark with his tactics yet again, knowing that Pathirana’s yorkers would make it tough for the batters to score against him. He conceded eight runs in his first two overs, before getting the first wicket of the match in his third.
The third ball of the 18th over was a cracking yorker, targetted on the middle stump to Wadhera, who was the lone warrior for his team, steadying the ship after his side collapsed to 14-3. The batter looked for some big runs and stepped across the stumps, but was knocked over as the ball went on to rattle the base of the middle stump.
Wadhera was dismissed for a well-fought 64 in 51, as MI made 139-8. CSK chased down the target with six wickets to spare.
