Watch: Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran combine for five sixes in an over, including massive 110m hit

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Lucknow Super Giants fell metres short of hitting six sixes in an over in one of the most astonishing passages of play in IPL 2023 so far, with Marcus Stoinis hitting two sixes, holing out, and then Nicholas Pooran starting off with three sixes in a row.

With a wide in there, the over, bowled by Abhishek Sharma, cost 31 runs, the most expensive in IPL history to include a wicket.

At the beginning of the over, LSG looked out of the game, needing nearly 14 runs an over from the last five. In the space of six balls, the equation changed completely, and they became significant favourites.

Stoinis started off the carnage, sending 100m and 110m sixes deep into the stands. It looked as if he had notched three in a row, but instead picked out the man on the long-off rope. That brought Pooran to the crease, and he started with a 105m hit. Two more sixes followed, though a distance for these was not displayed on the broadcast, but they were still worth the same on the scoreboard.

Pooran ended up finishing unbeaten on 44 as LSG coasted home by seven wickets in the final over.
