Watch: IPL debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz dances down to Sam Curran, smokes 101-metre six
Watch: Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, playing his first IPL game, smashed the first 100-metre six of IPL 2023 off Sam Curran, during the Punjab Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders fixture today (April 1).
Gurbaz, bought by KKR in this year’s auction, opened the batting alongside Mandeep Singh, facing Curran – the most expensive buy in IPL auction history. Off just his second ball in the tournament, Gurbaz danced down the track and smashed a length delivery deep into the wide long-on boundary with a clean, fierce strike.
The six was measured to have travelled 101 metres.
The wicketkeeper-batter continued to take the charge, hitting the next ball for a four, with KKR fetching 13 runs off the over. Arshdeep Singh responded in fine fashion though, taking two wickets in one over to have the Knight Riders reeling at 17-2.
Gurbaz was dismissed not long after, finishing on a 16-ball 22 after being sent back by Nathan Ellis.
